Each year the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology celebrates their annual Student Symposium. In this Symposium, post-docs and graduate students gather in one place to talk about their personal research and try to find a way in which they can collaborate with other researchers.
There is a common theme to each symposium and in this occasion it focused on the problems of having to communicate the same message to different audiences. Scientists have to talk about their research and make it clear to elementary school children, people with no scientific background, scientists from other fields, colleagues and government or industrial groups who will be funding the research at hand. How does one find the best way to transmit the importance of their work and the way it affects us in our every day lives without getting lost in all the mumble jumble?
Using easy to recognize icons, one can see the plethora of options we have today to communicate with the rest of the world. However, which one(s) is/are the best way to Spread the Word?
